A Nurturing and Play-Based Early Years Environment
My goal is to provide children with a rich and well-rounded early years experience, centred around play, exploration, and discovery.
The setting includes a dedicated playroom within my home, with the flexibility to extend into the adjoining living room through an open archway. From the kitchen’s dining area, we access a spacious back garden featuring a patio, large lawn, raised flower beds (where children can plant and care for flowers), and a log cabin designed as a second playroom. This setup encourages a free-flow environment between indoor and outdoor play.
I plan engaging, developmentally appropriate activities tailored to each child’s interests. At the same time, children are supported in making their own choices through access to open-ended resources that inspire creativity, critical thinking, and imagination.
Communication and language development are a key focus in our setting. We enjoy daily storytelling, singing, reading, and meaningful conversations. These activities help children build strong communication skills while also supporting self-regulation and executive functioning.
Messy and sensory play are part of our everyday experiences, along with plenty of opportunities for role play and mark making, both indoors and outside.
Children are gently encouraged to take part in everyday routines, such as preparing snacks and tidying up. We all eat together, creating natural moments for conversation and connection.
We embrace the changing seasons and spend a lot of time outdoors, whatever the weather, exploring the natural world around us. Whether it's a visit to the park, woods, beach, or countryside, we explore our local surroundings daily. Regular outings include visits to The National Library of Wales, Borth Community Hub, and Baby Boogie at St Paul's Methodist Centre. These are accessed both by car and by train.
